this is john's story.
During the summer of 2017, John and his good friend set out to complete the impressive biking distance of 100 miles in a day. After several hours of intense biking, the two teens had made it to the final 5 miles of their journey when a unsuspecting vehicle collided into John's bike. He was rushed to Mercy Hospital, where it became evident that the young athlete had suffered a severe head injury. John was not only a long standing member of the HSTriClub, but a talented artist and athlete. While the young man had a quiet demeanor, all of his teammates noticed and admired his dedication to the sport. John was not only a good triathlete, but he always made sure to encourage his fellow teammates during every practice and event, whether it was through a simple "Good job! Keep going!", or a friendly smile and the well known 'John nod'.
John C. Brandt went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 9th, 2017, just 5 days after the tragic accident. |

Beloved son of Paul and Deanna Brandt; cherished brother of Olivia Brandt, Lily Brandt, and August Brandt;
John was a beloved teammate, nephew, cousin, and friend to many people and animals. Not only was John an excellent swimmer and a triathlete, but he also greatly enjoyed art and drawing. John loved all animals (especially turtles!) He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. Although we grieve the loss of an amazing teammate, we rejoice at Heaven's gain of a new and athletic angel. Memorial contributions may be made to Brain Injury Association of Missouri or the HSTriathlon Club |
"In your quiet impactful way, please keep a look out for us left behind.
We will always have headwinds to challenge us. Help us keep the current in our direction; the pavement smooth of debris and the hills not too steep.”
